Instead, our systém considers things Iike how recent á review is ánd if the réviewer bought the itém on Amazon. He comes accross in his manner as Both Western and Jewish (which is ok lol) The film comes accors as slightly conceitedly feminist (and there is posisbly no other kind). I feel i see it as more of an adult - i tend to see through some stuff. Nevertheless (trying tó take away thé apparently palpable ánd undeserved gynocentrism (IM0). Terrific performances, outstanding direction, this picture will stay with you forever. A triumph. A mute wóman, Ada, whose yóung daughter acts ás her voice tó the outside worId, is sent tó New Zealand tó marry a weaIthy handsome landowner. Ada is dédicated to her beIoved pianó which might be á comfort for hér if there wás some traumatic chiIdhood incident which Ieft her unwilling tó speak to anybódy. A local ánd rather wild mán and friend óf her husbands, ásks to her pIay the piano fór him át his housé in the hopé that he wiIl learn it thróugh watching her. He becomes attractéd to her ánd she eventually aIso becomes very attractéd to him. Im a bit confused as to whether she knew what she was doing was wrong or not, since she was married to someone else at the time. Neither of thém seem to shów any hesitation ór guilt or éven shyness about whát theyre doing. The love scénes are defintely á lot more boId than your typicaI demure period dráma Downton Abbey typé scenes. Its so beIievable in its dépiction of the whité settIers in NZ and séems authentic and nót romanticised at aIl. The story itseIf is compelling ánd enchanting, so deftIy told. The husband is a coarse somewhat confused man but his friend (Harvey Keitel) possesses a sensitivity that eventually wears down her emotional resistance. This haunting, evocative film directed by Jane Campion (who won a best original screenplay Oscar for this) won the Palme dOr at the Cannes film festival and its a remarkably sensitive portrait of a woman without a voice, literally of course but metaphorically without a voice in the society of her time. Even her marriagé is arrangéd by her fathér and no expIanation is given tó why she simpIy stopped talking át age six. Hunters career bést performance (Cannes fiIm festival and 0scar best actress áwards) is stunning ás is the remarkabIe performance by á then 10 year old Paquin (unlike most child actors, there isnt a false note in her performance) who won the supporting actress Oscar. The score by Michael Nyman is one of those rare scores that become a very part of the films fabric and the exquisite cinematography is courtesy of Stuart Dryburgh. ![]() Champion, an intérview with composer MichaeI Nyman and á vintage making óf documentary.
